Farmer's Plea

I write this prayer in hopes You read it, my Goddess.

I am but a humble farmer. I tend to my crops daily, and I care for my animals diligently. I have made mistakes, yes, but I work for the good of Alteris. I need nothing more than what You have given me. I have never asked for anything.

Which is why, my Goddess, I beg of thee for help. Please, you must do what you’ve done before.

It’d help to remember the deed you did so long ago. Generations of long past, of my very own blood, you did for us something so miraculous. It was my great-great-great grandfather who passed down this wisdom to me.

His farm had grown weak one fall before winter, and he knew that they would starve. Our proud kingdom of Alteris was doomed, as you might recall.

Then, a miracle came before him. You shone your moonlight on his farm, and during that single night, all of his crops had grown. He was overjoyed, and Alteris was saved!

That was the first and last time you’ve performed a miracle for us. Despite all of our famine since, you’ve remained absent. So, Goddess, I am begging you. Please show us mercy just one last time.

You know, this famine is one quite peculiar. There have been many rains, but the crops still seem thirsty. I have plenty of animals, but all seem unable to reproduce. Perhaps, if they ate properly, everything will be alright. There is simply not enough food to go around as it is.

Which is why, my Goddess, I pray for your return.

My Goddess! It’s a miracle!

Once again, you’ve grown all the crops with your tender, enchanting hands! I may now provide for my family, and for the rest of the kingdom.

This is absolutely incredible. You have also let all the animals reproduce, and now the pen is overflowing! It happened quite fast, I must say, but not a problem at all!

Thank you, Gaia. On behalf of all of Alteris, thank you.

Why must you be so cruel?

I ought to say, this joke you’ve pulled is quite unfunny. Yesterday, I had been so excited to receive your blessing, I sold all of my crops and livestock so that I may live in peace again.

Today, I woke up to many screams from within the town. I ran to the city square to find that all of my stock had gone bad, and my patrons extremely unhappy. When I had told them what happened, they did not believe me, and I have since been shunned from the town. My wife kicked me out of our house as well. Now, I am hiding away in my windmill.

How could you do this to us? To play this brutal joke on not only me, but to the entire kingdom? The miracle and the tragedy, it must have all been you. People are dying everywhere, and you are laughing at them.

I see you now for what you are. Selfish, immature, and cruel. I hope you’re satisfied.
