Magic Tracker Update + October Bundle

Hey everyone, today we’re really excited to finally release the Magic Tracker update! You’ll now be able to use the Magic Tracker directly on the server. On top of this, Magic Teacher Applications are now open.

The Magic Tracker works very similarly to the Feats Tracker, which we released last year, but is entirely separate and built specifically for Magic. We've also introduced some major changes to how Elemental Magic works, such as changes to rituals and how you can access Elemental Magic.

Before we get into it, we have something important to share about the Might & Magic Update! If you aren't aware, the Might & Magic Update overhauls our PvE, PvP and Magic mechanics such as gems, abilities, weapon stats and more. Our Content team has been working on this update for over a year now.

We're excited to announce that the Might & Magic Update will be releasing toward the end of October! It's not far away now, and we're super excited to release it all to you.

Back to the Magic Tracker now, continue reading to find out more!

Magic Tracker

The Magic Tracker is a new way to view and keep track of all the different types of Magic your character has learnt in roleplay!

While in-game, you can use /magic to open the tracker. Here you’ll be able to view the Magic your character has learnt, their progression, and which of their Magic Slots are currently occupied.

Characters have a total of 3 Magic Slots, separate from your 5 Feat Slots. Different types of Magic may take up a different amount of these slots depending on their strength and complexity.

We’ve also introduced Supplementary Magic, which is consists of smaller supplementary types of Magic that do not take up any of your regular Magic Slots.

What's in the Magic Tracker?

With the Magic Tracker, we’re also properly bringing the different types of Magic together into one system. There are 6 types of Magic spread across 4 different categories. Let’s go over those categories and what Magic you’ll find in them!

More Magics can of course be added to the tracker in the future as Magic Lore continues to expand!

Elemental Magic Changes

The first, and arguably most important Magic has of course been added to the Magic Tracker; Elemental Magic! Elemental Magic will follow the full 5 stage progression track, from Unbound Magic with the base Fire, Air, Water and Earth elements all the way to Bound Magic, otherwise known as Advanced Magic with the Lightning, Vortex, Ice and Life elements.

We’ve also made some significant changes to how Elemental Magic rituals work, and how Elemental Magic can be used across your characters.

The introduction of Magic Teacher Applications also means we’re making some fairly significant changes to how Elemental Magic, from how it’s obtained to how your Elemental Magic is stored.

Using Elemental Magic Across Your Characters

From the very beginning of the server, it’s been intended that you can only learn one element per character, and that the element you choose is tied to that character and cannot be used across your other characters. However, mechanically, this wasn’t supported and so you could use Elemental Magic you learnt for one character, across all your characters.

The new Magic Tracker has been developed to ensure that any Magic you learn is tied to the character you learnt it on, and cannot be used on your untaught characters. Elemental Magic will mechanically be tied to your characters!

If you have already Elemental Magic already, when you next log-in, you’ll be prompted to select a character to apply that Elemental Magic to, for every element you’ve learnt.

Once that’s done, it’ll appear normally within that character’s Magic Tracker!

Elemental Magic Rituals

Earlier this year, we removed many of our Discord Lore tickets to reduce the reliance that lore and roleplay has on tickets. Following that, we implemented new ways to progress directly through roleplay, without a ticket.

The big remaining ticket  Currently, players need to open Magic Tickets to organise their attunement and later schedule their Magic Ritual. With this update, we’re removing most of that reliance on Discord tickets and moving the process directly in-game.

The new process will generally look like this:

  • Attunement: You’ll meet with an approved Elemental Magic teacher who can take you through an in-character process to determining your attunement. No ticket needs to be opened for this!
  • Classes & Graduation: You’ll attend and graduate from a Lore-approved Magic School or learn from an approved private teacher.
  • Ritual: Once you’ve graduated, you’ll travel to the Magic Temple that corresponds to your attuned element, and will be prompted in-game to begin the ritual. You’ll do this process in roleplay, using roleplay chat and/or emotes. No ticket needs to be opened for this!

The actual roleplay and knowledge required for Elemental Magic isn’t being removed or changed. We’ve simply made the process much more accessible and more available to use, without having to rely on Lore Tickets and their long response times.

Unbound (Advanced) Magic Changes

We’re also changing how Unbound Magic (also known as Advanced Magic) works as part of the new system.

By progressing through the several stages of Elemental Magic, you’ll now be able to naturally progress to the final stage of Unbound Magic, where you can advance to Unbound Magic.

  • Water can progress into Ice.
  • Earth can progress into Life.
  • Air can progress into Vortex.
  • Fire can progress into Lightning.

Of course, you’ll still be presented with the same ways to advance to Unbound Magic in roleplay. We aren’t changing that!

This also means that a mechanical implementation of Unbound Magic has been added, which means that we can finally add usable spells for Unbound Magic… which I’m excited to say will be coming with the Might & Magic Update that releases October 17th!

Supplementary Magic

Supplementary Magic is a new category of magic. Here you will find magic focused on flavouring and enhancing a character's roleplay capabilities. Supplementary magics are free and do not cost a magic slot. So do not be afraid to collect them at the expense of your limited magic slots!

Bardmancy has been moved over to this category, alongside a new Supplementary magic: the long-requested House Magistry! Imbue potions and magic into food, protect your home, and offer travelling luxuries to your party with the most refined of all magics (my pinkie is out as I type this).

Eldritch Magic

Clerics and Warlocks unite. Pacts with an Eldritch entity grant incomprehensible power. An eye darts from deep beneath the ocean surface. To glance into the abyss is to invite madness.

There are two types of Eldritch Magic: the Primordial clerics who follow the siren's song. And the Aberrant enforcers who protect them. Both of these magics allow you to shapeshift limbs into powerful weaponry, alongside five tiers of powerful spells.

Painter’s Magic

Imagination turned to power, painters magic allows the creative to thrive with paintbrush and palette in hand. Painter’s Magic is a creative branch off from bardic magic that uses enchanted pigments as its medium, and a painter’s tools as its focus. Through these enchanted pigments, players can paint spells to life in and out of combat. Painter’s Magic offers new players and veterans alike an avenue of magic that is more lighthearted and less dangerous.

Magic Teacher Applications

We’re also introducing Teacher Applications (TA)  for Magic!

These work very similarly to our existing Teacher Applications for Feats. Players with an approved Magic TA will be trusted to teach specific types of Magic to other players and progress them through their Magic in roleplay.

Having an approved TA means the Lore Team believes you’re confident in your knowledge of that Magic and can be trusted to teach its lore and progression correctly.

Just like Feat TAs, the goal is to place more trust and responsibility into the hands of players, while allowing more progression to happen naturally without requiring the Lore Team to be present every step of the way!

To submit a TA, please fill out the form under the Teacher Application forum on Discord.

That's it for this update, thank you!
