My ancestors were the first to find the earth crystal.
My days of being an explorer may be over, but I will never forget what Alteris did to us. To that end, I will continue the research that they started, along with my sister, Juliet.
The day they found the crystal was revolutionary. The crystals were said to hold immense magical power corresponding to its element, all according to Omin himself. No more would Lhiri be overcome with famine and disease.
So, they began to figure out how to harness the power for themselves. They began their research, which lasted for an excruciatingly long period of time of almost 120 years. This was the first crystal humanity had ever discovered, and our resources were extremely limited. Still, Lhiri persevered.
As far as I can remember, my sister and I were obsessed with the idea of crystal magic. We trained diligently so that we could one day visit and research the crystal ourselves. Our parents had always told us we were gifted. I was the nation’s champion in Joyoun¹ and Dajuhn². But Juliet was always the fastest when it came to reading, faster than anyone I had ever met. We were convinced that we would be the ones to harness its energy and bring it to Lhiri.
Eventually, our time came. We fervently sampled, researched, and studied everything we could about the earth crystal. It had almost became a race between us, to see who could pull the energy first.
But like I said, Juliet was always the fastest. She discovered and developed an incantation that uses the earth crystal for plant growth after testing it on bamboo.
We celebrated her victory with a massive feast in Lhiri. From all the attention she was receiving, I cannot lie and say I did not feel a bit jealous. We worked on it together, and yet it is only her name that is announced. But, and I mean this truly, I was so proud of her. We had done it. With the help of our ancestors and all those who came before, we had finally begun to harness the earth crystal’s energy.

Alas, all good things must pay the price. A spy had told Alteris of our accomplishment, and so they kidnapped my dear Juliet. They demanded that we must hand over our claim of the crystal, and all of our research. They acted as though the crystal was their goddess-given right, those smug and self-righteous bastards.
So a plan was formed. We’d hand over our claim and have them surrender Juliet. Then, when their backs are turned, we would take back what was ours.
And so we did. It was glorious.
I’m sure you’ve heard about it in your history books. How Alteris was wrongfully deceived by a traitorous, greedy, chaos-worshiping faction. But if the crystal truly is Gaia’s domain, it does not give them the right to do as they please. We have owned this crystal for over a century. It belongs to us, not some nation that popped up out of nowhere. Especially not one that would be so pathetic as to need to use hostages.
There you have it. That was the basis of a war in which you have all been brainwashed to believe in.
As the war rages on, with our allies in Koumi, Lhiri will never falter.
Now, Juliet and I live in hiding, continuing our research. We’ve set up this lab with magic said to preserve architecture. All so that our story will not be lost to history.
