On your travels in Eldorath, there is a rare chance that you could come across a random encounter! These are purely in-character roleplay scenarios that are targeted at random players.
When you are selected for a random encounter, a request will pop up in chat. If you accept then the lore member will teleport to you and the random encounter can begin! Many times the lore member will be looking for groups of players, so sometimes people who are in parties will be selected. Alternatively you may be asked to gather your own group. You can't be selected for another random encounter for 24 hours once you accept it!
A random encounter will be a purely in-character roleplay scenario where you may either have a puzzle to solve, or a combat encounter with an enemy to defeat! Sometimes it can be both, but in either case there may (or may not be!) rewards to be gained.
How are they random?
To ensure these encounters are truly random, we've developed a system that our Lore team uses to start up random encounters. The system will choose a random player that is online and send them a request, however, if your OOC Tag is toggled on, you can't be randomly selected. Our Lore team can also use this system to start a random encounter with a Party. Using the same process, it'll choose a random party leader and send them a request. If their OOC Tag is on though, they can't be selected.
When the request is accepted, the Lore team member will be teleported to the location of the player or the party leader and the Lore member will almost act as a 'Dungeon Master' for the random encounter. If a random encounter is for a party, once accepted, party members will be prompted to click a chat message to teleport to the party leaders location. Of course, encounter requests that are declined simply won't be ran!
If you or your party has been chosen for a random encounter and accept it, you cannot be randomly selected to do another encounter for 24 hours. Use the command /encounters to view when your last random encounters were, and if they're on cooldown or not!
Our random encounters are truly random and are not tied to Events or Storylines. Lore team members cannot pick and choose who gets an encounter in the wilderness!
When do they happen?
Our Lore team will try to run random encounters all throughout the day, and the aim is to allow as many people living in different timezones as possible to be selected for a random encounter, however, there is no true set time they will happen.
Therefore, random encounters are dependent on how available Lore team members are throughout the day, so please keep that in mind!
