Alteris Beginnings - A Fairytale
Eda was once a young girl, full of spirit and kindness.
She did not like the senseless killing or eating of animals, as she did not think it was fair to them. She spent a lot of time playing in the forests, and the forest was often kind to her and her alone.
She liked the forest, as her home was not so kind. She witnessed unimaginable violence there, people unable to see each other as fellow people.
You see, at her small village in the East, the people did not practice religion much. They simply cared for each other, and respectfully took what life had to offer. However, the Ominists, who used to rule over Eldorath, were not willing to accept this. They belittled these villages simply for not worshiping death and destruction like they did.
Eda saw this terror, and so greatly wanted to do something about it.
One day strolling through the forest, as fate would have it, a young woman came before Eda. According to Eda’s word, this woman was always described as such:
Skin as dark as the richest soil;
Eyes as green as the purest nature;
And hair as a silver and brilliant as the moonlight.
Her voice, gentle and soft, spoke to Eda, “Child of the forest, what do they call you?”
Eda could only stare, her breath caught in her throat as she gazed upon the woman’s ethereal being. Finally, she’d say, “Eda Alteri.”
Then the woman spoke again, “Eda. You have a nurturing heart and an iridescent soul. Meet me again when you’ve grown.”
Then, as quickly as she arrived, she was gone. Soon after that, a few travelers found Eda, all alone. They looked puzzled, and asked the child, “Was there someone else here? We heard a woman’s voice.” Eda, quite puzzled herself, could only say this:
“It was a Goddess!”
After that, she felt in her heart what she was meant to do. As she grew older, she began to bring people together. She told them of her story, and of her meeting the Goddess, and people’s hearts were moved. They wanted to believe in this Goddess, and called her Gaia.
So, all the small villages pooled their resources together under Eda’s leadership. Apart, they were powerless. But together, they created something amazing. This modest entity would soon be known as the Kingdom of Alteris.
Alongside all of this, Eda returned to the forest every day. She wondered what it will mean once the Goddess returns.
Then, one night, when the moon was full, Eda awoke with a melody. Eda, recognizing it from when she was a child, followed it deep into the forest.
[Eda following the notes into the forest]
Illuminated by the moonlight, Gaia appeared before Eda once more. She looked the exact same as she did all those years ago, still radiant and beautiful.
She did not say a word this time, however. She simply let out a chuckle, and reached her arms up to her head. She took the leafly crown that sat there, and placed it atop Eda’s head.
Then, she was gone.
Once Eda returned to Alteris, all the citizens cried:
“Our Queen, Queen Eda of Alteris! Blessed by Gaia, loved by all, with a nurturing heart and iridescent soul!”
Eda lived long and became the perfect Queen. An incredible model for generations to come.
The end.
